Data Scientist -

You would be working in a multi-disciplinary team and with customers to build solutions for customers and help them use and analyse data better. The role would require creating a full data/modelling pipeline, from data collection through to communication of end results and insights to the business.


Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2-3 years of industry experience in data science or programming. The candidate should be able to work independently and be able to build a data pipeline (which might require building your own web scraper,) and work with external teams to develop an API or query it from SQL/NoSQL database. Experience with a cloud computing platform such AWS is also required. Your results need to be communicated concisely to the business.

  • M.Sc. / PhD in computer science, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or physics

  • Experience in web-analytics and web-technologies

  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms both supervised and unsupervised.

  • Familiarity with ML toolkits such as scikit-learn, h2o, caret.

  • Good understanding of statistics, knowledge in experimental design is a plus (A/B tests).

  • Scripting and programming: proficiency in Python, R (good to have), any other language is a plus.

  • Fluency with Unix/Linux

  • Working knowledge in query languages SQL and NoSQL (Mongo).

  • Visualisation (ggplot, matplotlib, D3, highcharts)

  • Eager to explore new territories while at the same time keeping focussed on delivering quick prototypes.

  • Communication skills

  • Fluency in English and/or German is a plus.

The role requires:

  • Collaborating with business-facing teams to understand data and functional requirements

  • Inputting into overall IT architecture of the solution, including technical environment configuration, data modelling, data integration, data presentation, information security and other IT architecture related topics

  • Designing and building data pipelines to ingest, integrate, standardise, clean and publish data

  • Defining and building integration patterns with downstream applications

  • Supporting Data Scientists in their day-to-day work on a variety of topics, including tools and data analysis methods

  • Taking part in creating analytical deliverables for the business stakeholders

You offer:

  • University education in IT or another technical specialisation, ideally with focus on Data Management

  • Work experience as a Data Engineer using Big Data technologies

  • Experience with Hadoop based analytical solutions, ideally on Cloudera distribution

  • Practical skills in creating data processing pipelines (Python, R, Spark, Scala or similar tools)

  • Good knowledge of SQL, Hive and Impala databases

  • Ideally experience with Jupyter Notebook, Hue and/or other end user tools

  • Presto or Redshift experience is a plus

  • Business development experience is a plus

  • Agile development experience is a plus

  • The ability to work in a dynamic environment, be comfortable with changing priorities and tight deadlines and manage your own workload with minimum supervision

  • The ability to build strong collaborative relationships with colleagues in IT and business groups

  • Very good communication skills in English; German is an advantage
